So it’s official the dress is by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen: just as Bazaar predicted from day one. Not that we’re blowing our own trumpet or anything…

We hear that Kate, or should we say the new Duchess of Cambridge, worked closely with Burton on the design (could this be the blossoming of a new career?), paying tribute to the Arts and Crafts tradition.

But now for the details: Sarah’s creation is of ivory and lace silk gazar with a satin bodice and in a lovely touch, the lace appliqué for bodice and skirt was hand embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework based at Hampton Court Palace.

Individual flowers were hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle incorporating British symbols the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly was used throughout the bodice and skirt and even for the trim of the underskirt. (more…)

2. In our “do it yourself” world, you may be surprised by the high level of attention and care you will receive when shopping at a full-service bridal salon. Enjoy it! This is an important purchase and it should feel like it.

3. Wedding gowns tend to run small in size. You will probably need a gown that is a size or two larger than you are accustomed to buying. Do not panic!

4. When starting to shop, print out pictures of gowns that you like. This will help you explain to your bridal specialist what your perfect dress looks like. (more…)
